Poet of English weather
John Constable

He painted the Suffolk countryside he grew up in with a meteorological honesty no one had tried before, building skies with separate dabs of color that made them feel genuinely cloudy rather than decoratively grand. The French loved him more than the English did; his Hay Wain caused a sensation at the 1824 Paris Salon and Delacroix repainted parts of his own Massacre at Chios after seeing it.
